Inclusion and diversity

We want everyone at GSK to feel able to be themselves and bring their own unique perspectives, styles and experience to our business. We value that uniqueness. It makes our business stronger.

We are building a diverse talent pipeline to enhance our ability to innovate in response to the diverse needs of patients and consumers around the world.

Our global inclusion and diversity councils are driving our agenda. We have dedicated councils on gender, LGBT+, disability and ethnicity. They are supported by employee-led resource groups that champion diversity across the business.

Focus on gender and LGBT+

To accelerate our progress on inclusion and diversity, we are focusing particularly on increasing female representation in senior management and promoting LGBT+ inclusion throughout the organisation.

GSK is a member of the 30% Club gender campaign that aims to achieve 30% female representation in senior management within FTSE 100 companies by 2020.

We support development and career progression for high-performing female managers through our Accelerating Difference programme, which provides coaching and support. We also recruit and support?women early in their careers through our graduate and apprentice programmes.

We have pledged our support for the UN LGBTI global business standards and we have achieved strong rankings in workplace equality indices around the world.

UK legislation came into effect in April 2017 requiring companies to share data showing the difference in average pay between its male and female employees. For 2018, we are pleased to publish our smaller gender pay gap of +2.15%. This remains significantly below the national average. In the last year, we’ve increased the proportion of women in senior roles in the UK and this was the most important contributory factor behind this improvement. This is consistent with the continued increase in the representation of women in our global management population. To support our ongoing commitment to increase gender diversity at all levels of the organisation and in all countries, we have set up a global gender council to guide our work. Alongside this, we continue to value the partnership we have established with our Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) employee resource group.

Disability confident

GSK is a signatory to the Charter for Change at the 2018 UK Government Department for International Development Global Disability Summit, joining other organisations with a common aim to ensure rights, freedoms, dignity and inclusion for people with disabilities.

Our Disability Confidence Network provides a forum for employees to find out more about accessibility and raise awareness of local initiatives.
